History of PDI

  • 1978: Founded as a division of Railroad Bearing Corporation, a Richmond, Virginia based company.
  • 1981: Developed and patented the first motor generator with ride-through measured in seconds rather than milliseconds.
  • 1982: First U.L. 478 approved motor generator in the industry.
  • 1983: First computer room central monitoring and teleservice system in the industry.
  • 1984: Developed first single module power center with six panelboard capability in the industry.
  • 1985: Developed the industry's first microprocessor based central monitoring and teleservice system, Sentinel 1. Developed and patented the first magnetic synthesizer line conditioner with +/-60% input window.
  • 1989: Frank Genovese, a Richmond businessman, purchased and reorganized the company and later installed the present management team and charged them to develop the company in accordance with the above mission and strategy statements.
  • 1991: Designed and U.L. approved the first power distribution unit with harmonic cancellation using magnetic components. Shipped the first Sentinel 11, U.L. approved, central monitoring and teleservice unit that monitored THD, KWH, KW, PF, frequency along with RMS voltages, currents and with phase rotation verification. Moved to a new 35,000 square foot office and manufacturing facility.
  • 1993: Issued a patent on the design and application of harmonic canceling magnetics.
  • 1994: Obtained first U.L./CSA approval on the Static Automatic Transfer Switch, an automatic transfer device, in the USA and Canada.
  • 1999: Developed and shipped the first Remote Power Panel (RPP) system in the industry.
  • 2000: Developed and shipped the first Branch Circuit Monitoring System (BCMS) in the industry. Patent filed on this exclusive technology that takes current and power sensing capabilities down to the customer connection point.
  • 2001: Moved into a new 80,000 square foot office and manufacturing facility at 4200 Oakleys Ct. US patent issued in December for exclusive BCMS technology.
